Snake Goddess
For a detailed picture, click on the fresco's title.

From the Greek Islands of Thera and Crete during the years of 3000-2000 BC, the great Minoan Civilization traversed the Mediterranean, trading with the Egyptians and establishing colonies on every coast. They disappeared after the volcanic destruction of Thera, leaving behind remnants of a highly advanced culture including magnificently detailed, colorful frescoes.

These frescoes are hand painted on a special plaster-mix base. They have a hook for hanging or can easily be displayed on a small tripod.

Dolphin Sterling Silver Ring
Dolphin Sterling Silver Ring
Dolphin Sterling Silver Ring. Dolphins have been celebrated throughout history as friendly companions to humans. The dolphin has been seen to exhibit traits not too different from humans, which is why they are respected and honored. This sterling silver ring is reminiscent of the Minoan culture in that they too celebrated the ocean and all of its inhabitants, especially dolphins. Made from sterling silver and measures 1” x 7/8” x 1/2”.

minoan snake goddess
Minoan Snake Goddess Sculpture
Not a snake-charmer, she is a snake goddess! The people of Crete seem to have worshiped a mother goddess sacred to many places and manifest in many forms. This Snake Goddess (c. 1600 BC)--who shakes two snakes as an animal sits on her head--may have been used as part of this ritual. Illustrated in other archeological evidence, the open bodice and flounced skirt was a favored style worn by Minoan women. Now in the Herakleion Museum, Crete, this reproduction is made from compound stone with a hand painted polychrome finish, 12.25”H. D-082SP, $57
