Duchamp's Bicycle Wheel
His fertile imagination ranks Marcel Duchamp (American, b. France, 1887-1968) as an important 20th-century artist. He invented “Readymades”-taking everyday objects, possibly altering them, and presenting as works of art. His first Readymade, Bicycle Wheel (1913) - a bicycle wheel attached to a kitchen stool-is possibly his best known work.
